The bell rang loud and clear across the campus and always the students flocked outside to the parking lot. Many hung around their cars or near the main entrance, but Lana was the last one out today. She had a habit of taking her days at a slow pace. Pushing open the doors Lana walked down the steps while occasionally waving at people that she knew. Lana should’ve been happy, she was surrounded by her friends and family and had everything a girl her age could possibly want. But deep inside her was this void that ate away at her every single day as though she wasn’t meant to be happy. For now though she could only push these feelings aside and take in a deep breath. “Just another day in Smallville.” Her eyes glanced around trying to decide what to do, seeing as how it was a Friday and all. There was always the option of taking a ride out to her favorite tree in the fields but Lana’s heart wasn’t in it. Hearing her name being called she whirled around to look over at the jocks as they waved at her to come over. As always they were huddled around a familiar white truck. Lana looked on, and smiled while holding up her hand. She would most likely join them later, but now was not the time.

Clark was sitting in class when he heard the bell ring. Smallville, the small town right outside of Metropolis. He grabbed his red bag and swung it around his shoulder and walked out of the building into the parking lot looking around at the kids as they passed getting run into a couple of times. He wasn't Mr. Popular at the school, especially after becoming the school scarecrow. He walked into the parking lot and then saw Lana looking over at the crowded white truck but didn't go over. That was the usual cool kid grounds.
So Clark took the initiative risk and walked over towards Lana, ever since she got rid of her necklace he could actually have a conversation with her without falling to his knees. "Hey Lana, what's up?" He asked as he moved on next to her. They had been getting pretty close on friendship level. He felt like there was something more right beneath the surface but was to scared to step forward and do anything about it but there was the problem.
Clark looked up and saw Whitney Fordman, how could he ever get Lana when she has a boyfriend who is the star of the highschool while he was the mild mannered farmboy.

Her thoughts were twisting all around her, sometimes her life felt like one uncontrollable wreck. Most people had the benefit of choosing who they wanted to be, and where life would take them. Even Whitney had that going for him, he was going after whatever he wanted in his life. It almost left Lana feeling envious, she so badly wanted to be able to go out in the world and really find herself. For now she’d have to play along and live up to her aunt’s expectations which were really a lot harder than it seemed. Nell wanted so much for Lana, but she just couldn’t share the same desire. Trapped in her own world thinking all of this over, she almost jumped at the sound of a voice behind her. Looking away from Whitney and his friends, Lana found herself in the company of a familiar face. “Clark, I didn’t see you there. Off in my own world I guess.” Talking to him was always a relief for Lana, he was the only one that could truly relate with her. Smiling and looking down she collected her thoughts before meeting his eyes.
“I was just trying to think of a good way to start my Friday off. And how about you, any plans for the weekend?” From the corner of her eyes she could see Whitney looking over at them, he wasn’t a bad guy really. But there had been tension ever since the prank on Clark which left her wondering just what kind of person he really was. Lana wasn’t afraid to admit to Whitney that Clark was a close friend of hers and there was nothing wrong with that. But Lana could still see Whitney’s eyes trained on them thinking the worst as he always did. Finally she turned her head and looked at Whitney only for him to look away. Returning her attention back to Clark she gave a smile and then sighed. Lana didn’t feel like facing Whitney today, and would probably wait until Sunday to see him again. Then it would be a whole new week and she could have a fresh start on the week.
